Scientist, Entrepreneur, Robotics Expert Will Speak to Downtown Collaboratory 'Game Changers'

Engineer and entrepreneur Todd Hylton is the featured speaker for "Game Changers," slated for Nov. 30 in downtown San Diego.

San Diego, CA, November 22, 2016 -- The fourth presentation in the Game Changers Series features Todd Hylton, an electrical engineering professor of practice at the Â鶹´«Ã½ Jacobs School of Engineering and executive director of the .

The presentation, free and open to the public, will be held 5-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the Downtown San Diego Partnership offices at 401 B St., Suite 100.

The field of robotics is poised to change all aspects of modern life, from driving to housekeeping to our jobs. Hylton -- who has worked at Brain Corporation and DARPA, cofounded 4Wave, and is an inventor and entrepreneur who has earned 19 patents throughout his career -- is well-positioned to explain what is fueling the increased interest and investment into robotics and how this emerging field will affect not only our region but also the global economy.

Paul Roben, Associate Vice Chancellor for Innovation at Â鶹´«Ã½, one of the event’s sponsors, said that current robotics research exemplifies the spirit of innovation focused on solving local, regional, and global problems.

“With the Collaboratory for Downtown Innovation, the Office of Innovation and Commercialization at Â鶹´«Ã½ believes in bringing the benefits of our research to where the greater San Diego community lives and works,” said Roben.

Mary Walshok, the associate vice chancellor for Public Programs and dean of Extension, who helped develop the Collaboratory, said the Game Changers series is committed to building stronger connections between tech entrepreneurs in downtown San Diego and researchers and scientists at Â鶹´«Ã½ and at other institutions on the Torrey Pines Mesa.

“This is about creating a cohesive network of entrepreneurs and innovators who can bridge the region’s diverse competencies to grow the local economy in a more inclusive manner,” Walshok said.

The Collaboratory for Downtown Innovation is committed to building stronger connections between tech entrepreneurs in Downtown San Diego and researchers and scientists at Â鶹´«Ã½ and at other institutions on the Torrey Pines Mesa. The Game Changer Series is part of that effort to link these two driving forces in the region’s innovation economy.
