New Product Launch from Bose tied to Â鶹´«Ã½ startup Hush
San Diego, CA, June 22, 2018 -- Bose launched noise-masking sleepbuds this week, and there's a Â鶹´«Ã½ connection. In 2016 Bose acquired Hush, a noise-cancelling smart earplug startup launched by undergraduates at the Â鶹´«Ã½ Jacobs School of Engineering.
In a about the Bose acquisition of Hush, Daniel Lee, co-founder and CEO of Hush and a 2014 mechanical engineering graduate from Â鶹´«Ã½, said the Hush product had been integrated into Bose’s noise-masking sleepbud product line.
The engineering students conceptualized the company in mechanical engineering professor Nate Delson’s Product Design and Entrepreneurship class.
“The idea for Hush initially started as a homework assignment for Dr. Delson’s entrepreneurship course, so I’d say Professor Delson and Â鶹´«Ã½ were very important for the idea to have happened,” said Lee.

The purpose of the entrepreneurship class is to learn about what’s involved in product design, explained Delson.
“You need to identify a compelling market need, see if there’s technology that can meet that need, and see if there’s a viable business model,” Delson said. “Whether students go out and do an entrepreneurial project or not, hopefully they go into the workforce more attuned to the fact that real products need business models and that financial constraints are important.”
Hush went on to be incubated in San Diego’s EvoNexus before it was acquired by Bose. .
