We make bold possible

What we mean
"We make bold possible" describes our dedication to transformative technical education, to relevant research and, to ensuring our innovations improve human lives. We advance engineering and computer science for the public good. It's what we do. It's who we are.Ìý
Every day, we challenge our students to combine theory and practice for maximum positive impact inside and outside the classroom. We challenge our students -- and our entire community -- to find their big-picture "Why". We challenge our students to discover how their creativity and technical expertise contribute to solving real-world challenges.Ìý
This integrated focus on technical excellence and relevance allows us to train and inspire the diverse innovation workforce this nation needs.

World-class Research and Education
Our research is fueled by our $256M in funding in the 2022-2023 fiscal year.ÌýView our Jacobs School 2024 snapshot brochure (PDF).ÌýWe are a core part of Â鶹´«Ã½'s incredible .
In June 2024, we improved our positionÌýin the closely watched U.S. News & World Report Best Engineering Schools rankings.ÌýWe ranked #7 among public institutions and #11 overall. The #11 ranking is up from #17 in 2016. (See all rankings here.) We also rank #1 among all public engineering schools in the nation for citations per publication.
While rankings are an imperfect metric, this rise in the rankings mirrors increasing momentum and strength all across the Jacobs School. Our education programs; research enterprise; capacity to partner with industry, academic and government labs; and our innovation ecosystems are all world class.Ìý
In 2022, we openedÌý. We are working hard to ensure the innovation ecosystems we build in Franklin Antonio Hall serve as a bold new model for innovation for the nation and beyond.Ìý

Diversity
Diversity is essential for innovation. It's critical that every single student, staff and faculty member in the Jacobs School community feels at home and is empowered to do the creative and innovative technical work they are so capable of. In this sense, we are making our community's bold dreams possible.Ìý
At the Jacobs School, we collaborate across disciplines on both fundamental and applied research. Our world-class engineers and computer scientists create new knowledge, new cures and new solutions to pressing challenges. At the same time, we make behind-the-scenes technical advances that empower others to do the same. Our research informs our teaching at all levels, ensuring that all our students get the experiences they need to emerge as members of the innovation workforce.
